On The Calculation of Viscosity Coefficients for H2 Obeying Hartree-Fock-¬Dispersion (HFD)-type Potential

The Hartree-Fock-Dispersion (HFD) intermolecular pair potential describing the sperical interaction for H2 proposed by McConville has been used to calculate the viscosity coefficients for H2 theoretically.Since, other transport properties data for hydrogen rather than viscosity coefficients are scarce, we present the viscosity collision integrals with an uncertainty commensurate with the experimental accuracy. Eventually this accuracy in the viscosity collision integrals is also exist in the other collision integrals needed for obtaining related thermophysical properties. Three consecutive integrals for the calculation of viscosity collision integral have been carried out numerically. We come into force to adopt the aforesaid potential, since, it has been modified to reproduce accurately the equilibrium bulk properties such as second virial coefficients. Consequently, there is no doubt about the application of aforementioned potential to calculate the transport properties for Hz, because the calculated results are clearly adequate with experimental ones and has shown good agreement. read more

Determination of Heavy Metals in Vegetables and Soils at Sewerage farm in Sindh Industrial Trading Estate(SITE), Karachi

A study was conducted to determine the concentration of heavy metal accumulation, in soil and vegetables grown at Gutter Baghicha, where untreated mixture of industrial effluents and sewerage is being used. The maximum concentration of heavy metals determined in soil were found to be 12228 (Fe), 870 (Zn), 439 (Mn), 177 (Cu), 64 (Ni), 63 (Cr), 122(Pb), 0.98 (Cd) and 14 (Co) ppm It is concluded that the high levels of heavy metals found in the vegetables grown in this area is due to continuous use of untreated industrial effluents The heavy metals accumulation in the vegetables grown on these soils were also determined. The matrix correlation for all these metals is reported. These correlations indicate that the metals came from the same source. The physical properties of soil and heavy metals concentration in particulate matter I water used for irrigation is also presented. This baseline data generated will help to establish any harmful effect on human with the use of vegetables grown with polluted waster.read more

Solvent Extraction Studies of Copper(ll) with Tri-n-Octylamine-Chloride System

Studies were carried out for the extraction and recovery of copper (II) with tri-n-Octylamine from different aqueous chloride medial Parameters, such as, the effect of concentrations of extractant, copper.ions chlorides of alkalies &. ammonium, and the effects of time of contact as well as diverse ions were optimized. Maximum percentage extraction and recovery of copper (II) ions were achieved with S% solution of tri-n-octylamine (TOA) in benzene and 0.10 M NH4CI.read more

Heavy metals (Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cd, Co, Ni, Mo, Cr and Ph) status in some selected soils of Peshawar and Nowshera Districts

This study was initiated to investigate the levels of heavy metals Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cd, Co, Ni, Mo, Cr and Pb in some contaminated or expected to be contaminated by industrial effluents and non-contaminated soils of Peshawar and Nowshera districts. 11Ie project also included the determination of physico-chemical properties of the selected soils and their correlation with the heavy metals concentrations. Thirty (30) soil samples from ten (10) different selected soils were collected from 0- 15, 15-30 and 30-45 em, respectively. Each sample was analyzed for physico-chemical characteristics, using standard analytical techniques and for extractable Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cd, Co, Ni, Mo, Cr and Pb, using ammonium bicarbonate-diethylene-triamine-pentaceticacid(AB-DTPA) as extracting solution. The textural classes varied from silty loam, sandy-loam to silty-clay-Ioam. All the soils under study were non-saline having EC values between 0.38 and 2.81 dsm·l. pH value ranged from 7.63 to 8.22 except Pirbala soil which had pH value of 9.11. All the soils were adequate in Zn, Cu, Fe and Mn for most agricultural crops. Higher levels of Ni and Cr near Ghee mills and Tanner Industry respectively may be harmful for human, aquatic life and agricultural crops. Higher levels of AB-DTPA extractable heavy metals were observed in contaminated than in non-contaminated soils. In majority of the soil samples, the concentration levels of metals decreased with increase in depth. No correlation was found between concentrations of heavy metals and soil physico-chemical properties, which might be due to the soils collected from different places with different thermodynamic properties.read more

Determination of Characteristic Constant of Strontium Complexes with Dibromo-o-Carboxy-Chlorophosphonazo and Dibromo-p- Methyl-¬Methlsulfonazo

The two reactions were both sensitive between strontium(II) and dibromo-o-carboxy-chlorophosphonazo (DBKCPA) at pH IO.S as well as between strontium and dibrorno-p-methyl-methlsulfonazo (DBMMSA) at pH 8.S. The klorredion dual-wavelength spectrophotometric method was applied to the determination of properties· of Sr complex solutions because it was able to eliminate the interference of excess ligand in the reaction system. The multi-coordination reaction was found in such a complex system because the complex ratio of Sr(Il) to DBKCPA and to DBMMSA were equal to 1:7 and 1:2 respectively. In addition, this investigation still brought out the easy determination of the stepwise real molar absorptivity (E) and stepwise or cumulative stability constant (K) of Sr·DBKCPA and Sr-DBMMSA complexes.read more

An acid endopeptidase was partially purified from normal human red blood cells by ammonium sulphate precipitation, gel filtration chromatography ion exchange chromatography and HPLC. The enzyme had a molecular mass of around 45-54 KD as measured by SDS·PAGE. The endopeptidase does not belong to serine and metallo protease families and seems to be a cathepsin D-like enzyme.read more
